1 October 2026: Digital Waste Tracking becomes mandatory
Across England and Wales — Scotland and Northern Ireland follow from January 2027. Every waste receipt will need an EWC code, a weighed tonnage, and a submission to DEFRA's Receipt of Waste API.

How one collection becomes one compliant, auditable record

Step 1 · Lift confirmed
Driver confirms the collection in the app; weight is captured from a weighbridge ticket, a container-size default, or logged manually.
Step 2 · Waste classified
The correct EWC (European Waste Catalogue) code is assigned per waste stream from your own catalogue, with hazardous streams flagged automatically.
Step 3 · WTN generated & signed
A digital Waste Transfer Note is rendered, carrier and disposal-site details attached, and signed electronically by driver and site.
Step 4 · Submitted to DEFRA
EWC lines and weighed tonnage are queued to DEFRA's Receipt of Waste API — the system of record behind the Digital Waste Tracking mandate — with automatic retry if the service is briefly unavailable.
Step 5 · Duty of care, checked nightly
Every carrier and broker licence on the job is checked against the Environment Agency's public register overnight — so an expired licence is flagged before it becomes your liability, not after.
